West Lake Hills is on Farm Road 2244 on the west side of Lake Austin at the edge of the Edwards Plateau six miles west of downtown Austin in west central Travis County. An affluent suburb of Austin, TX, Westlake was incorporated as an independent suburb in 1953. Schools in Westlake fall under the Eanes School District and boast the ranking of 45th in Texas schools and #298 in national rankings. Westlake High School alumni include Drew Brees and Nick Foles, both Super Bowl winners. You can expect a variety of homes in Westlake, however they trend toward contemporary modern properties with large lots and plenty of space. While Westlake is only about 6 miles from downtown, traffic can cause longer than expected commutes.
The Barton Creek Greenbelt has over 12 miles of gorgeous space for hiking and biking as well as rock climbing, swimming and kayaking.
The Austin Country Club, located in the Westlake neighborhood of Davenport Ranch, offers a 180-acre, 18-hole golf course designed by renowned architect Pete Dye, 10 lighted tennis courts (of which two are clay), a heated, 50-meter pool, a 57-slip marina and boat club, and a clubhouse with dining and meeting rooms and a large ballroom.
If you want to stay close to home on the weekends, Westlake offers dining and shopping options in the neighborhood. Jack Allen’s kitchen, owned by local chef and philanthropist, Jack Gilmore, is known for its laid back atmosphere and amazing pimiento cheese. You can also toast at the Grove Wine Bar on their outdoor outdoor patio.
