New Tax Year | Homestead Exemption

Here’s How to Apply for Homestead Exemption in Texas

In Texas, homeowners are able to get a significant discount on their property taxes if the home is their primary residence.  In order to qualify for the online Homestead Exemption filing, the property owner must have owned and occupied the property as of January 1st of the current tax year..  You must file an Application for Residential Homestead Exemption with the county appraisal district between January 1 and April 30 of the tax year – up to one year after you pay your taxes.

If you have any questions about the application / filing process, please don’t hesitate to reach out to the Luxe Property Group.  Requirements to apply are a state issued Driver’s License or Identification card showing your current physical address and you usually only have to apply once and not annually.  We worked with several home owners in the last year that never filed for their exemption and lived in their homes for 5 or even 10 years.  They would have saved thousands and thousands of dollars if they would have filled out a short form with their county!  We want to make sure this doesn’t happen to you, so please make sure you file on time.
